  Just wanted to update a little as of 9-5-2013. My family and I continue our quest to find a possible match for a kidney transplant. My daughter was very nice to create these flyers to help get the word out. Please take a look at these flyers and would love for people to spread to the word out.

Hi, my name is Manuel Bringas and I am 61 years old. I am currently a retired military veteran and a father of two. I am also a proud grandparent of two beautiful girls. It all started when my kidneys  started to fail as my diabetes became uncontrollable. Now I have to go to dialysis 3 times a week for 4 and a half hours to keep me alive. Most days the procedure takes a toll on my body and after work, all I want to do is sleep. I feel weak and tired very easily when I go to dialysis. I close my eyes most of the time, so I can dream of a better place and not think of what I have to go through day by day.

Just recently I have been told I could have a second chance at life. But it wouldn't come easy. I knew I had to work hard for it. My doctors said I could start living again if I can find a compatible living kidney donor.  I am a blood type A+.  I started to do my research online, and found out that most people do very well living with one kidney.  So I started to realize what my goal in life is... to see if anyone would be willing to donate, or even volunteer to be screen for a possible candidate. The best part about it is.... all or most of the procedures, blood work, and visits, would be covered through my insurance.

I am still keeping hope...

Here are some interesting stats about blood type compatibility. If you google it, one can find lots of information about it..I thought I would share what I found...It gives me some more hope as I am A+ and knowing I can recieve a kidney from someone who isn't exactly A+

In living donation, the following blood types are compatible: Recipients with blood type O... can receive a kidney from blood type O only Recipients with blood type A... can receive a kidney from blood types A and O Recipients with blood type B... can receive a kidney from blood types B and O Recipients with blood type AB... can receive a kidney from blood types A, B, AB and O (AB is the universal recipient: recipients with AB blood are compatible with any other blood type)

This was me in my younger years when I was with the love of my life. I looked so healthy and happy back then..

 

And this is me now..as you can see I am on a strict diet because I can not gain too much weight for the dialysis machine..by the way I am a blood type A+

Information You Need to Know

In order to qualify as a living donor, an individual must be in good general health, and free from serious health risks. Routine tests are also performed to determine the potential donor's level of physical and mental health, and compatibility with the patient awaiting a transplant. Gender and race are not factors in determining a successful match. People of all ages and backgrounds can be organ donors; however, those under age 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian.
There have been more than 107,000 living kidney donors to date who have given the Gift of Life. The surgery is now done laparoscopically with shorter recovery time and less risk. Typically, the recipient’s insurance covers the donor’s medical costs related to testing and procedure. Living donors do not need to be blood-related or even blood-type compatible. All living donors are awarded points for their donation, so if they ever need a kidney later in life, they are given priority on the list.

Somedays, it is rough and tiring to go to dialysis and then leave there only to rest for about half an hour, before I am off to work again.
 I am creating this page in hoping to try and find a compatible kidney donor . The doctors say I have to be on dialysis for the rest of my life or until my body can not handle anymore. I created this page so I can share my story with you and promote awareness of how important kidney donation is.
